Alexis Borisy, A.M.

President and Chief Executive Officer,
Founder

Alexis Borisy, founder of CombinatoRx, has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer, and a director of CombinatoRx since March 2000. From 1995 to March 2000 Mr. Borisy was a strategy consultant, working with senior executives at pharmaceutical and biotech companies in the areas of corporate strategy, portfolio management, and discovery technology. Prior to leaving his Ph.D. program to pursue a business career, Mr. Borisy came from a science background in chemistry and biology. He was a Howard Hughes Predoctoral Fellow in life sciences, a Presidential Scholar, and the 2003 MIT Technology Review Innovator of the Year award recipient. Mr. Borisy holds an A.B. in chemistry from the University of Chicago and an A.M. in chemistry from Harvard University. Back to Top

Sally W. Crawford

Independent Healthcare Consultant

Sally W. Crawford served as Chief Operating Officer of Healthsource, Inc., a publicly held managed care organization headquartered in New Hampshire from its founding in April 1985 until January 1997. During her tenure at Healthsource, Inc., Ms. Crawford led development of the company's operating systems and marketing strategies and supported strategic alliances with physicians, hospitals, insurers and other healthcare companies. Since January 1997, Ms. Crawford has been a healthcare consultant in New Hampshire. Ms. Crawford serves on the Board of Directors for Hologic, Inc., Exact Sciences Corporation and Chittenden Corporation. Ms. Crawford earned a BA in English from Smith College and an MS in communication from Boston University. Back to Top

Barbara Deptula

Executive Vice President,
Business Development, Shire PLC

Barbara Deptula has served as a member of our Board of Directors since December 2005. Ms. Deptula is the Executive Vice President of Business Development at Shire PLC. Previously she served as President of the Biotechnology Division of Sicor, Inc., which was subsequently acquired by Teva Pharmaceuticals. Ms. Deptula also served as the Senior Vice President for Commercial and Product Development at Coley Pharmaceutical Group in Wellesley, MA. She has held various senior management positions with U.S. Bioscience, Schering-Plough and American Cyanamid. Ms. Deptula holds a BS in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago Business School. Back to Top

Patrick J. Fortune, Ph.D.

Patrick Fortune, Ph.D. has served as a member of our Board of Directors since February 2004. Since 2001, Dr. Fortune has been a partner of Boston Millennia Partners, a venture capital firm. From 1999 to 2001, Dr. Fortune was President and Chief Operating Officer of New Era of Networks, Inc. He serves on the Board of Directors for Parexel International Corporation, Entigo Corporation, Collegium Pharmaceutical Inc. and Arthrosurface, Inc. Mr. Fortune holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, an MBA from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Wisconsin. Back to Top

Frank Haydu

Director,
Chairman of the Audit Committee

Frank Haydu has served as a member of our Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee since August 2004. Since 2001, Mr. Haydu has been the Managing Director and co-founder of Valuation Perspectives, Inc., a corporate finance advisory firm. He serves on the Board of Directors for Moldflow Corporation and iParty Corp. Mr. Haydu holds a B.A. in economics from Muhlenberg College. Back to Top

Michael G. Kauffman, M.D., Ph.D.

President and Chief Executive Officer,
EPIX Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Michael Kauffman joined as a member of our Board of Directors in June 2006. Dr. Kauffman joined Predix Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the predecessor to EPIX, in September 2002. Prior to that he held a number of senior medical and program leadership positions at Millennium Pharmaceuticals Inc. Dr. Kauffman also served as Medical Director at Biogen Corporation (now Biogen Idec). Dr. Kauffman currently serves on the Board of Directors for Bioenvision, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company. Dr. Kauffman received his MD and Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry at Johns Hopkins and his BA in biochemistry summa cum laude from Amherst College. Back to Top

W. James O'Shea

Director

W. James O'Shea has served as a member of our Board of Directors since June 2007. From October 1999 to March 2007 Mr. O'Shea was President and Chief Operating Officer at Sepracor where he was responsible for successfully building that organization's commercial infrastructure. From April to August 2007, Mr. O'Shea served as Sepracor's Vice Chairman. Prior to Sepracor, Mr. O'Shea was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing and Medical Affairs for Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, a business unit of Zeneca Inc. While at Zeneca, he also held several management positions of increasing responsibility in international sales and marketing in the U.S. and U.K. Mr. O'Shea is an Executive Board member and past Chairman of the National Pharmaceutical Council and is also a Board member of CollaGenex Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Surface Logix, Inc. Mr. O'Shea is a graduate of Liverpool Lord Byron University. He received an honors degree in applied physics from the Institute of Physics. Back to Top

Richard Pops

Richard Pops has served as a member of our Board of Directors since October 2001. Mr. Pops is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alkermes, Inc., a biotechnology company. Mr. Pops was the Chief Executive Officer of Alkermes from 1991 until 2007. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Neurocrine Biosciences, Inc. and Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Mr. Pops holds a B.A. in economics from Stanford University. Back to Top
